A young British backpacker was stabbed to death as a knifeman went on a rampage at an Australian hostel.
Mia Ayliffe-Chung, 21, was knifed in a frenzied attack in front of more than 30 people by a man who was allegedly shouting 'Allahu Akbar' in Queensland.
A 29-year-old French man is now in police custody over the killing.
Police are investigating whether the arrested man – who had been in Australia for several months – has any link to terror organisations.
Friends of the tragic teenager paid tribute on social media.
Amy Browne, 19, who had worked with Ms Ayliffe-Chung in the Gold Coast, said she 'got along with everyone she met'.
She said: 'Mia was honestly the most bubbliest and most caring girl I knew.
'She always had a smile on her face, so innocent and full of life and love.'
Kyle Godwin posted on Facebook: 'Today I lost a best friend.
'Even though I've only known you for a short amount of time it feels like we have been best friends for years, we just seemingly clicked and were like two peas in a pod.
'I will miss you forever Mia.'
